The photographs below were taken in the Elm Hill and Magdalen Street area of Norwich on May 20th, 2017.
The photographs below were taken on March 9th, 2017, and show Norwich Cathedral Close from the Ethelbert Gate down to Pull's Ferry and then through to the Riverside walk along the banks of the River Wensum, alongside the playing fields of Norwich School. The Close holds many memories for me from my time at the Norwich School and above the Ethelbert Gate was the school's art room where I remember spending some lovely Saturday mornings with the wonderful Alex Humphries who always overlooked the fact that I was and am absolutely useless at art.
The statue in the second photograph is of Wellington. It is opposite a statue of Nelson (not photographed at this time). Pull's Ferry is named after John Pull, who ran the ferry across the Wensum from 1796 to 1841. It was previously known as Sandling's, after a 17th-century predecessor. The ferry operated until 1943.
A close up of the statue of Wellington, Norwich Cathedral pictured from the Riverside Walk and an intriguing tree on the walk.
More photographs along the Riverside walk including another view of Norwich Cathedral and the ancient monument of Cow Tower which was built in 1398 as part of the city's defences against the French. The shot before Cow Tower is of Bishop Bridge which was built in 1340. During my time at the Norwich School the now landscaped garden around Cow Tower was used as a rugby pitch. It's proximity to the river meant the ball was forever getting wet, not to mention lost!
The following shots include Fye Bridge, The Merchant's House, Cinema City and St Andrew's Hall.
